About Me

I am an Accredited Practising Dietitian, Accredited Sports Dietitian and Nutritionist, with a PhD in Public Health where I examined the impact of vitamin D on metabolism, metabolic rates and inflammation.

I am a lecturer in the Master of Dietetics, Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Food Science) and an invited lecturer in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery curriculum at Curtin University, Western Australia. I love to teach others, share my knowledge and experience and inspire the new generation of nutrition and medical specialists.

I am very lucky to enjoy reading and a big part of research involves reading to understand what is known about a topic and to inform the planning of new studies. I was the co-recipient of the internationally distinguished David Kritchevsky Research Award in 2014. I have co- authored 22 peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter and for the past 5 years I have conducted nutrition research in WA hospitals (and continue to do so).

I continue to consult as a dietitian in private practice, specialising in the client-centred management of a variety of health conditions including the metabolic syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, osteoporosis, arthritis and recovery following surgery and injury.

I also consult for sporting events such as the Hawaiian Ride for Youth. This is an awareness raising and fundraising event run by Youth Focus, with the aim of supporting mental health of young people in Western Australia.

What inspired me to found The Nutrition Doctor?

I am passionate about the health and well-being of the community. This is why all of the business activities of The Nutrition Doctor, promote the health and well-being of the community.

I founded The Nutrition Doctor following my increasing concerns about the extensive nutrition misinformation and confusion amongst the public when it comes to what to eat and drink, whilst scientific research shows that the majority of Australians have a poor-quality diet.

To combat this, I develop self-paced (for those who prefer to learn at their own pace) and dietitian-supported (for those who want accountability, support and motivation) online programs that give the community access to evidence-based nutrition in an engaging and practical format. It is my goal, that through these programs, The Nutrition Doctor can dispel nutritional myths and improve the diets of the community.

I am a strong advocate of the importance and relevance of nutrition to other health professionals. Health professionals are a trusted source of information, and each interaction with a client/patient is an opportunity to promote healthy nutrition. I develop and deliver evidence-based online courses, training days, workshops, seminars and webinars, specifically designed for health professionals as part of their continuing professional development. These opportunities are designed for health professionals who have an interest in the role of nutrition for specific health conditions that they prevent and treat, with an emphasis on application to practice. It is my goal, that through these activities, The Nutrition Doctor, can contribute to the development of a holistic approach to health, which the client/patient will benefit from and health professionals can continue to offer their patients/clients high quality care.

I am passionate about promoting the physical and psychological health of employees in the workplace. We spend a substantial proportion of our lives at work, and therefore it is vital that the workplace is a supportive health-promoting environment. There is considerable evidence that when staff are unwell with ill health and chronic disease, this has a poor outcome for productivity. By working with employers and employees, we can work towards the same goal of a healthier, happier and more productive workplace.
